Newsworthy instances that prove that what happens on the boat stays on the boat...sometimes!
NOT INVITED
New York Social Diary columnist David Patrick Columbia, who covers the chic Tinsely Mortimer crowd, caused quite the stir when he spoke freely about excessive wealth to BigThink, the famous media that brings global thought leaders and the public together. Even interviewees Richard Branson and Ted Kennedy didn’t cause this kind of drama. So what exactly did Columbia do? “A lot of people are just too rich,” Columbia was quoted as saying unrepentantly before going on to tell a story about dining on a “big, huge, 300 feet or something yacht” of a “very, very rich man.” “It was enormous; it was parked in New York Harbor, on the West Side,” continued Columbia. “And he gave a dinner party. As we were leaving the party, I hitched a ride in the taxi with a man who was a very successful, very well-known, and very wealthy businessman. And he was telling me that this particular man who owned this yacht wanted to get involved in another business deal. He was saying: ‘You know, the problem with these guys is they’re just bored. They have more money than they can spend, they just want to make more because it’s something to do.” Needless to say, Columbia’s name has been dropped from several noted superyacht guest lists.
