The National Marine Manufacturers Association says boaters on average will own five boats in their lifetime. The following are tips to help you find the right next boat:

First consider these motivating factors:

Size. Do you want more space for storage, comfort, more people, stability, etc.?

Activities. Do you want to try new things like overnighting, cruising, wake boarding, fishing or sailing?

Where. Do you want to do your baoting- fresh water, saltwater, along the coast, at a lake?

Speed. Do you want to go faster? Or, for some, Maybe you dont need to go quite that fast.

Functionality. Do you want a more comfortable head or galley? Do you want your family to be able to sleep on the boat, or do you need more space to stow your toys?

Aesthetics. Do you want a boat that looks different?

Handling. Do you want something that will handle better in choppy water and keep you safe, dry and comfortable?

Think big. Your family and group of friends are growing and they will keep growing. Once you find what you think is the right boat, check one out that is two feet longer.

Finally, make sure you get the price of required equipment--all the must have electronics and safety equipment.
