Letters to the Editor

CUBAN LOVE
I just wanted to share with you how your piece on Cuba and its travel potential has moved me more than once. I first read this article in early October when the magazine had just come out. I got chills down my back, since I could relate to the writer’s situation of displaced family members in Cuba, having experienced it myself. I later shared the article with my father who had actually lived through that time. As I write you this letter, I’m reading the article again and remembering why this topic hits a soft spot in the heart of every exile. Thanks for reminding us not to forget those that were left behind.

Editor’s Response: Nothing makes me happier than to hear that one of our articles affected someone in some way. Your story is very touching and I appreciate you taking the time to write me. I checked out your rods, and I want one.
BEGGIN’ FOR BIKINIS
I love Wave! But I can’t help but notice that you haven’t really covered bikinis and nautical wear since your summer issue. Why not?! People go to the beach all over the world all year long. As a swimwear designer, I tell you that people look for swimwear and resortwear year-round. That’s why major stores in NYC display bikinis in their storefronts in the middle of winter when it’s snowing outside, so don’t take it personally! It’s a perfect fashion “wave,” to have bikinis and boats together! Any chance I can expect more coverage on water wear in upcoming issues? You can see one of my 2007 designs inspired by wave prints of moving tides, presented at the Sunglass Hut Miami Swim Show.

Editor’s Response: Wow! Great collection. I’m happy to report that we are launching a nautical wear section that will incorporate bikinis, cruise wear, bathing suits and men’s and women’s apparel. Additionally, we’re planning to tie in our Sirens with a regular fashion show concept throughout 2007. I’d love to get you involved somehow. I’ll be in touch. P.S.: Any chance I can get one of your models as a Siren in an upcoming issue?
WAVE FLAIR
I recently came across Wave and I wanted to drop you a line to let you know how impressed I am with the direction of the magazine, particularly in terms of its international flair and scope. Having friends and associates from every corner of the world, I appreciate diversity in all its forms. Keep up the great job and I look forward to reading more about water-related things to do and places to go in Wave. Here’s a photo of me aboard one of the many yachts I frequent.

Editor’s Response: Shella, you definitely sound like a globe-savvy networker. Having been an editor for more than a dozen regional, national and international publications throughout my career, I tend to skew my editorial mix toward diversity. I’m glad Wave readers are taking notice. Spread the word about how great we are – and keep reading Wave!

TV SPOT
I was reading your magazine this weekend and was impressed with your layout and content. I’m the executive producer of Sportsman’s Adventures with Capt. Rick Murphy. In case you’re not familiar with our show we have been on Sun Sports for the past 14 years. We also air on Fox’s Sports South, which covers the entire southeast. We also air nationally on the Water Channel. At this time we are looking at expanding our coverage to print. I would like to discuss possible advertising options. When would be a good time to go over possible rates for your next issue?
— Mike Zimmer
Executive Producer
Sportsman’s Adventures
Editor’s Response: I’ve heard great things about your show and am looking forward to creating a mutually beneficial relationship. With our integrated media plan, TV fits in perfectly with our efforts. As far as advertising goes, we never turn down a potential client! Our sales team will be in touch with you soon.
HELLO FROM AFRICA
I am a freelance journalist based in Nakuru, Kenya, willing to make some feature contributions to Wave. I am a published writer in Kenya, the US, the UK and Canada.

Editor’s Response: I must admit, I knew Wave was far-reaching, but I never imagined we’d make it all the way to Africa. I can now say I have readers on every continent, except Antarctica, but we all know that only research scientists are based there anyway. I am, interestingly enough, working on a feature on Lake Vostok, a 25 million-year-old untapped frozen lake in the Arctic continent that has yet to be penetrated for fear of contaminating the dinosaur-aged contents. Look out for it next issue.
COOL COVERAGE
I enjoyed my first edition of Wave. It has an original concept that makes it less predictable than your competition. I am a Flats Charter Guide in the lower Florida Keys and I would like to know if you would be interested in article submissions. The lower Keys offers some of the best fishing and frequently receives less fishing pressure than the Key West area. I’m a member of the Key West and Lower Keys Guide Association and therefore I have access to the latest fishing concepts and information.
— Capt. Pete Peterson

Editor’s Response: You sound like a well-connected guy with tons of ideas to burn. I’d definitely be in touch about potential articles you could author for Wave, particularly on Keys-related fishing.
