TRAVEL TREASURE

I am impressed by your travel coverage and would like to suggest a place your readers might be interested in. Sometimes we forget what a trove of maritime treasures we have right here in America. I was reminded of this during a recent summer weekend when I sailed into Cape May, NJ, and spent a few days at the South Jersey Marina. The people there couldn’t have been nicer and kindly directed me into town. More than 600 beautifully restored Victorian homes and hostelries line the streets and beaches, including the elegant Congress Hall, America’s first seaside hotel, first opened in 1816. Today, it’s fully restored and continues its reign as the town’s grand dame. I hope you enjoy exploring this American classic as much as I did.

Editor’s Response: I checked out capemaychamber.com as well as southjerseymarina.com and must admit I was happy that you wrote in a letter letting me know of this relatively unknown national treasure. I think our readers will enjoy a trip to this historic - and charming - American locale and I encourage them to check out the website.

FANTASY TRIP

I just wanted to drop a few lines to thank Wave and SkyAuction for the trip of a lifetime. We have been traveling with SkyAuction for six years and you have outdone yourselves on the Hemingway Bimini Fest. We utilized a Blackberry to resubmit our bid on the way to Costa Rica. When we returned, we were surprised that we had the winning bid! Once on Bimini, we were treated with first-class service from all of your staff. The festival, fishing and the food was exceptional. The Wave Hemingway Festival will become an annual event for us. I can assure you that we will express to people the fun we had and encourage them to make plans for next year’s event.

Editor’s Response: Congratulations on the win! We appreciate your continued loyalty to Wave and SkyAuction…I’m glad it paid off! Looking forward to seeing you - and all of your friends - at next year’s event!

PRIME PROPERTY

On behalf of Big Johns Conch Shell Bar, Lounge and Hotel in Bimini, we want to thank you and your readers for making our destination the hottest watering hole in town. We appreciate Wave’s recognition in the recent article on the changing face of Bimini, as it was a welcome introduction to our Heritage Village development. Unlike other Bahamian developments, our project is preserving the community and history of Bimini by paying tribute to the island’s historic allure and architectural design, which your article so masterfully conveyed. Thanks!

Editor’s Response: Thanks for the kind words, but it’s our duty to let our readers know about the best the world has to offer and your property fit our criteria perfectly. I hope our readers end up buying some property over there so they can keep me updated on everything the island has to offer while I’m slaving away on my laptop!

SEE FOOD

I enjoyed reading Jen Karetnick’s wonderful “Seafood Satisfaction” article in the last issue of Wave so much so that I was inspired to share one of my recipes with you; it’s an Asian twist on one of South Florida’s favorite seafood dishes. I recently participated in Tiger Beer’s Chili Crab Festival in Brooklyn, New York, and have since adapted the winning recipe for the home kitchen. Chili Crab is famous as Singapore’s national dish, and every chef has his or her own secret ingredients. I adapted the winning chef’s recipe using readily available ingredients and mainly lump crabmeat, dressing it up with a few claws and legs to make it look authentic. The winning recipe and my adaptation are posted on my website, eleanorhoh.com, together with sources for ingredients. Hope it’s something you might want to feature in your “Connoisseur” section.

Editor’s Response: Yum! I checked out your website and am looking forward to making your tasty dish soon. I’m also interested in possibly featuring one of your delicious dishes in our Connoisseur section. The shrimp dish you’re holding in your photo looks delicious! I’ll be in touch.

WAVE PLAY

I just wanted to take a moment and tell you that I just picked up a copy of WAVE and I love it! As a person who loves the water and boating, I found the articles to be extremely interesting. I must admit that I don’t care too much for fishing, but the destination article on Bimini and the toys in the Splash! section were great! I love the $1,000,000.00 fishing lure too! I look forward to receiving the next issue! If you could put some great stories in on the hottest personal watercraft and other water toys...that would be great! Keep up the good work!

Editor’s Response: It’s always nice to hear that the products we spend endless weeks researching are of use to our readers. Wait until you check out the submersible yacht in our Splash! section this issue. I hope you’re inspired to buy one. By the way…nice car!
